A composite material can be defined as a mixture of two or more mechanically separable materials that when combined give properties superior to the individual components.

 

There are two constituent parts of a composite Orthoses

 

Fibre

  • Provides reinforcement to the resin
  • Provides the strength and Stiffness

Resin

  • Supports the fibres – maintaining orientation
  • Bonds the fibres – transfers applied loads to the fibres
